User & Group Management

Springdel’s User & Group Management allows admins to create users, assign them to groups, and control access through group-based permissions. With support for granular control of profiles and files, it ensures secure and efficient user operations across the platform.

Key Benefits

  • Centralized User Management – Streamline onboarding, updates, and maintenance of user accounts.
  • Group-Based Permissions – Ensure consistent and secure access control across teams.
  • Granular Content Access – Restrict access at the file and profile level for better control.
  • Improved Accountability – Track activity by user group for clear audit trails.
  • Reduced Risk Exposure – Limit platform access based on user roles and responsibilities.

User Management

1. Create New User

  1. Log in to your Springdel console.
  2. Navigate to the Users section from the left-hand menu.
  3. Click on any group where you wish to create the user (e.g., Unassigned).
  4. On the top-right, click the “Manage” button, then select “Create User” from the dropdown menu.
  5. Fill in the required User Details and once completed, click the “Create” button.
  6. You’ll be redirected back to the “Unassigned” group, where a success message will confirm the creation.
  7. The newly added user will now appear in the list with their details, including email, name, status, and creation time.

2. Manage User

  1. Click the checkbox next to the user you want to manage (e.g., from Unassigned group).
  2. Once a user is selected, a toolbar with multiple action icons will appear at the top of the list.

Delete User

Permanently remove the user from the Springdel console.

Request Password Change

3. Delete User

  1. Select the checkbox next to the user you wish to delete from a specific group (e.g., Unassigned).
  2. After selecting the user and clicking the delete icon, a confirmation dialog will appear.
  3. Click Confirm to proceed with deleting the user, or Cancel to abort the action.

Group Management

1. Create New Group

  1. Navigate to the Users section from the left-hand menu.
  2. At the bottom of the User Groups list, click the “Create a Group +” button.
  3. In the pop-up screen, under User Group Name, enter a name for your group (e.g., Moderator).
  4. Scroll down to the Global Permissions section.
  5. Select the appropriate privileges level (Read Only or Read/Write) for each setting such as Fleet Access, Alert, Profile Access, Applications, Certificates, etc.
  6. Continue scrolling to the Device Action Commands section.
  7. Select the appropriate privileges level next to each allowed action, such as Export device location logs, Move Device(s), Unenroll Device(s), Temporarily Exit Kiosk Mode, Update OS, etc.

  1. Proceed to Fleet Access Management.
  2. Under Remote Control Permissions, select the fleets this group is allowed to control remotely. You can either choose All Fleets, or expand the list to select specific fleets — such as Android or Android Enterprise (as shown here for illustration purposes).
  3. Similarly, under View-Specific Permissions, choose which fleets this group is allowed to view.
  4. After setting all necessary permissions and fleet access controls, switch to the User Management tab on the left panel.
  5. From the Existing Users list on the right, drag and drop the users you want to assign into the User Management box on the left.

Important: Each user should only be assigned to one group. Adding a user to multiple groups may cause permission conflicts or unexpected behavior.

  1. Once users are assigned and all settings are confirmed, click the Create button at the top right to finalize the new user group.

2. Manage Group

  1. From the left-hand panel under User Groups, select the group you wish to manage (e.g., Moderator).
  2. Click the Manage button at the top-right of the screen.
  3. In the dropdown menu, click Edit Group.
  4. You’ll be taken to the group’s configuration page where you can:
    • Change the group name
    • Assign or remove users
    • Set privileges for the group
  5. Alternatively, you can also move a user directly by clicking the tickbox next to the user's email. Then, click the folder icon at the top of the user list to initiate the move action.
  6. A popup will appear prompting you to select a target user group. Choose the appropriate group (e.g., Admins, Moderator, Unassigned) and click Move to confirm.

Note: This method is particularly useful if you wish to move a user directly to a different group without having to unassign and reassign them manually.

3. Delete Group

  1. To delete a group, click the “Manage” button at the top right, then select “Delete Group” from the dropdown menu.
  2. After clicking the “Delete Group” from the dropdown menu, a confirmation dialog will appear.
  3. Click Confirm to proceed with deleting the group, or Cancel to abort the action.

Granular User Group Permissions

1. Enable Granular User Group Permissions

  1. To enable granular user group permissions, navigate to Settings > Common Settings, then find the User Control section. You can toggle on the switch for Files, Profiles, or both — depending on whether you want to restrict access to files, profiles, or both.
  2. After enabling it, navigate to the profile you want to manage. Once you've opened the profile, click Permitted User Groups from the left panel to configure access permissions. Tick the checkbox for the user groups you want to allow access to that profile.

Note: Only administrators and users in the selected groups will be able to view or manage the configuration.

  1. You can apply the same permission logic to files as well. Go to File System > My Files, click on the actions (three dots) next to a file, and select “Update Permitted User Groups.”

  2. In the popup, tick the checkbox of the appropriate user groups and click Update to confirm access control.

2. Disable Granular User Group Permissions

  1. To disable granular user group permissions, go to Settings > Common Settings, then locate the User Control section. Toggle off the switch for Files, Profiles, or both — depending on which permissions you no longer want to restrict by user group. |

Note: Once disabled, only Admins will have access to the respective files or profiles; other user groups will lose access unless it's re-enabled.

Best Practices & Tips

  • Use Clear Naming Conventions: Name users and groups based on their role or department (e.g., IT Admins, Sales Team) to simplify identification and permissions management.
  • Apply Least Privilege Principle: Grant only the permissions necessary for a user’s role to reduce security risks.
  • Review Permissions Regularly: Periodically audit group privileges and access rights to ensure they remain aligned with organizational policies.
  • Enable Granular Permissions When Needed: Use file- and profile-level restrictions for sensitive content, and disable them when not required to simplify management.
